Where’s the nom?

In New York City, No Nom Posts on 11 July 2012 at 4:52 pm

Seems life whisked me away (forced hiatus) and held me hostage against my will. Fall of last year my family began what would be a long and tedious journey of caring for my grandmother. No one knew it would be this difficult. No one suspected that grandma would make things so difficult. I have been to New York City twice. These weren’t one week trips. Try a month and a half and then back up there for another three weeks. My dear mom has been there over four times trying to get financial matters together as well as dealing with family members who want this and that but don’t really want to help.

SO~ while I was in New York being supportive and taking notes on what NOT to do to family and my monies in my golden years, I was sucking in New York like I usually do. I love New York. It is a gastronomical playground for me. Chinatown, Little Korea and Japan, bakeries in the Bronx and Manhattan…I love it. I consume it. I always look for one more place to taste and see what they are about. Read the rest of this entry »

Happy Birthday, BAMOLA!

In Foodie, New York City, Restaurants, The Good Life on 5 September 2010 at 12:59 am

Yes, yes, my lil blog turned one today. For so long I have wanted to just post things that I ate and enjoyed. I have found that in creating and keeping this wonderful blog that I have come to appreciate many establishments in my city and in New York. I have come to settle for higher quality of foods going in my system as well as learn more and more about the restaurant business.

Also, my photography skills have inched up another level and I am very pleased with that. Some of the shots I have taken (and will eventually post) I am amazed with because the food wasn’t just food anymore. It became art and not just to my eyes but to others who observed my pictures as well.

Anyway, as one should do when celebrating, I’d like to thank my readers for coming by and scoping my shots and my quirkiness. I enjoy sharing my thoughts and humor with others because they usually get a good laugh or see something in a new light. I’d also like to thank BigHache for all the encouragement, camera techniques, and the nom. Without him I think my knowledge and taste buds would still be roaming around in the dark ages. I’d also like to thank 3M because without him at times I just wouldn’t be inspired to write or share my heart and passions. It has been my pleasure to crack him up! THANK YOU, guys!!!

New York Food Bites: Deli Turkey Sammich

In Deli, Foodie catnip, Sandwiches on 31 July 2010 at 9:50 pm

New York has awesome places to eat. Everyone knows this. Whenever I go to visit family there I make sure that I visit some of the popping places. Sometimes it’s the well publicized restaurants. Sometimes it’s the local places that capture your taste buds.

I heart this local deli in Elmhurst for its turkey sandwiches. OH MY FAT GOOSE those things are divine. I enjoy chowing down on them. As soon as I got off the plane and in that neighborhood I was salivating. Thank GOD that place stays open 24/7. It is such a simplistic sammy. Thinly sliced oven-roasted turkey, cool shredded lettuce, red tomatoes and all the spicy mustard one can squeeze out the mustard delivery system! Mmmm. This is a fav of mine. I don’t usually eat cold cut meat sandwiches but I do eat these. I make sure to pick them up each and every time I am in Queens.
