Ackee and Sal fish, mon!

In Jamaican, Restaurants, Vegetarian on 13 March 2014 at 10:53 pm

Do you know ackee and salt fish plus food? BigHache and I had this at Stars Caribbean. It is his favorite meal. The “food” is boiled green banana and boiled dumplins. I found the ackee, which is actually a fruit, to have a marinated flavor. It was definitely an acquired taste.

If you need a little Jamaica in your life (like some awesome and authentic jerk chicken or oxtails) check the restaurant out. They have Irish Moss, too!

San Marco Goes Green

In Cake, Dessert, Restaurants, Sandwiches on 1 May 2010 at 3:18 pm

The newly opened Green Erth Bistro on Hendricks Ave. in San Marco is the next big little up-and-coming eatery. Since opening only two weeks ago they’ve already begun to build a frequent customer base.

Visitors will pamper their palettes with this fresh, California inspired cuisine featuring natural ingredients in the meals. When I visited I had a cup of their vegetable soup, pesto and roast beef panini, and a carrot cake cupcake.

The soup has a chicken broth base (sorry for my vegetarian friends), tasteful and not overcooked carrots, and a wonderful mushroom hint.

The roast beef sandwich was no less than stellar. The pesto is made fresh and the beef was delectable. Add to it the side of tabouleh and you’ve got yourself an absolutely wonderful lunch.

For dessert I tried the carrot cake cupcake which was simply nice. Not too sweet nor heavy enough to offset the meal. I had a spiced Chai tea with cream to accompany it. Their selection of Numi Organic Tea are a nice treat by themselves.

Green Erth Bistro has a lot of promising potential. With their proximity to my work I look forward to frequenting them on a regular basis. Check them out!

High Tide Burrito

In Restaurants, Seafood on 11 January 2010 at 6:14 pm

Hot off the presses and out of the fryer comes High Tide Burrito with some shrimp goodness. Since opening last year in San Marco this place has offered up some pretty decent grubs. Today they had a Shrimp Burrito limited time special that was enough to make me want another right afterward.

The shrimp is breaded and then tossed in the magic maker. It takes a few minutes to fry but is well worth it. If enough of you order this it may make it’s way to the full time menu.
