Ackee and Sal fish, mon!

In Jamaican, Restaurants, Vegetarian on 13 March 2014 at 10:53 pm

Do you know ackee and salt fish plus food? BigHache and I had this at Stars Caribbean. It is his favorite meal. The “food” is boiled green banana and boiled dumplins. I found the ackee, which is actually a fruit, to have a marinated flavor. It was definitely an acquired taste.

If you need a little Jamaica in your life (like some awesome and authentic jerk chicken or oxtails) check the restaurant out. They have Irish Moss, too!

The Manatee Cafe

In Restaurants, St. Augustine, Vegan friendly, Vegetables, Vegetarian on 25 September 2011 at 11:37 pm

This wonderful cafe is a delight! Almost bordering on being a shrine for manatees, this place has a fun decor and a huge heart for sea cows. The colors are relaxing as is the atmosphere.

The majority of their food is vegan friendly and mighty good. I had their Veggie Burrito #1 (pictured above) with a side of tabouli and crunchy blue corn chips.  The sweet potato was a nice surprised and added a unique flavor to the meal. Everything tasted FRESH!  Kg (new friend!) had their veggie burger which I think I should have gotten and will probably get the next time I go. It was stacked, beautiful and I totally didn’t get a pic of it. It had black beans and onions which are a total selling point, so yeah, I think I will be getting that.

Sunrise and Lillie’s Coffee Bar

Happy New Year, my friend! Welcome to 2011. How did you open the year? I was personally determined to see the first sunrise of the year and so at 6am I rose out my warm bed and drove 45mins to Neptune Beach to watch the gradual rising of the first year’s sun.

The breeze was cool and the building colors in the sky were soft and becoming stronger. I am very happy I went. Makes me want to go to the beach every morning. Read the rest of this entry »
