Oktoberfest at Seven Bridges

In Breads, Chicken, German, Restaurants on 31 October 2010 at 11:54 pm

Well, we all know that October equals Oktoberfest more so in Europe than in the US but I am thankful for the attempt here in the US. Now, I am in no way a beer drinker, HOWEVER, I totally enjoy the foods that go great with German bier.  (Btw how was your Oktoberfest this year?)

Seven Bridges is a fantastic jewel here in Jacksonville that serves up great and memorable food, atmosphere, and live bands. They are also well known for the different beers they have on hand and even have tapping parties from time to time. This year they had quite an impressive Oktoberfest menu going on. I let the food buddy tend to the heart of Oktoberfest as I perused the the platters and appetizers.

We ended up ordering some of the best pretzels I have ever tasted this side of the pond. Baked just right, golden brown, soft, with a slight hint of salt…yeeaaaah. You know nom is good when you keep wanting more days after it is gone. Anyway, these particular freshly baked pretzels were served with two types of beer mustard sauce. One was a sweet mustard and the other was a most epic hot mustard sauce chalked full of horseradish kick AND punch. This latter sauce was most worthy to write home about. Totally.

Our main course was a very pleasant, juicy, lightly encrusted chicken schnitzel served with sauerkraut mashed potatoes and wonderful red cabbage. The meal itself was complete and I was not wanting for anything afterward. They did it right and the schnitzel was well worth the visit to Seven Bridges…the mash potatoes, too.

Maybe one day I will make it back to Germany during Oktoberfest and get my schnitzel nomming on but for now I will definitely make sure to return to Seven Bridges when they offer this menu again!
